What’s it all about?

Sarah is fascinated by some mysterious singing coming from the hedge.

This is the episode where:

• Sarah & Duck are in the garden checking that the hedges are all in good order, when they suddenly hear some singing

• It sounds like the singing is coming from the hedge, so they have a look inside, but they can’t see anything

• The Ribbon Sisters point towards an open window over the hedge – somebody is singing opera!

• Sarah & Duck go to the Technology Room to do some research on opera, and Sarah decides to tries singing some herself

• Sarah is disappointed that her voice doesn’t sound deep enough – but she has an idea, and rather than singing she mimes to the sound of the singer next door, pretending to have a deep voice!

This is what we learn...

  • An opera is like a play where the story is told through singing
  • Opera is usually sung in Italian – bravissimo!
  • Opera singers sing very loudly – they can have very deep voices, or sometimes very high voices!
  • Not everyone can sing opera – it’s very difficult!
  • Opera singers often wear smart clothes, like a ‘coat and tails’
