What’s it all about?

Sarah & Duck are excited to visit the observatory to see a passing comet.

This is the episode where:

• Sarah & Duck take a trip to the observatory to view a comet that won’t be seen again for many years

• While exploring the observatory, they come across some pieces of actual comets – sometimes bits of meteors and comets break off and land on earth

• Duck wanders off and finds a big red button which he pushes – suddenly the roof opens and the observatory telescope extends!

• Sarah & Duck look through the telescope and see Mars & Venus, who are waiting for Comet – they say he is their dear friend, but they haven’t seen him in a very long time

• Mars & Venus decide to hide and surprise Comet when he arrives, but it doesn’t quite go to plan – Comet is frightened and hides in the observatory!

• Comet explains that he doesn’t remember ever meeting Mars and Venus – his memory has not been the same since the last time he was at the observatory. It’s as if he left his memory behind.

• Sarah realises that Comet is missing a piece of himself, like the pieces of actual comet in the observatory – so Comet tries on all of the pieces of comet in the observatory to see if he can find his missing piece.

• Comet finally finds the correct piece and gets his memory back! He remembers Mars and Venus and is so happy to see them again.

This is what we learn...

  • An observatory is place – usually with a large telescope – where we can learn about stars, planets and everything to do with space
  • Comets are objects made of dust and ice that orbit the sun – they’re a bit like giant rocky snowballs flying through space
  • Sometimes bits of comets and meteors break off and land on earth
  • It’s lovely to be reunited with friends that we haven’t seen for a long time
