What’s it all about?

Sarah & Duck visit a castle, where their drawings lead them to an exciting discovery.

This is the episode where:

• Sarah & Duck are drawing pictures from a book all about bricks when they come across a picture of a castle, complete with its own coat of arms

• They decide to visit their local castle, so that they can draw some real bricks

• They arrive at the castle to find that it’s very old, and in ruins – but there are still LOTS of bricks for them to draw

• Sarah & Duck find a stone table and sit down to do some drawings – as they get started, a Crow swoops down and steals one of their crayons!

• Duck scribbles with another crayon on his paper and it reveals a picture of coins. They discover that coins have been carved into the stone, and that Duck created a rubbing by drawing over them.

• Sarah & Duck wonder what other secrets the castle might have, so they go off to explore, finding more carvings and creating more rubbings as they go – firstly of a crown, then a Paisley fish, a slice of bread, and a crow.

• Later, they see the crow again and decide to follow him into the Great Hall – where the castle’s coat of arms can be seen above the fireplace

• Sarah & Duck realise that if they put all their pictures together it makes up the coat of arms – and that the castle belongs to the crow!

• Underneath the fireplace, they find the castle treasure – including their missing crayon!

• Sarah draws her very own coat of arms featuring lots of the things she loves – lemons, bread, her plant, a seacow, and Duck!

This is what we learn...

  • A coat of arms is a picture featuring symbols and shapes that represents a place, family or people
  • Castles tend to be really old and are fun to explore. You can learn lots about history when you visit a castle.
  • A ‘rubbing’ is created when you draw on a sheet of paper that has been placed on top of a textured object or surface – it’s easiest to do this with crayons
  • You can create your own ‘coat of arms’ by thinking of the objects or things that you love the most
